Plane Adjustment Mallet
Please note: Only FIVE more of these mallets will be made with Lignum Vitae heads. Lignum has become very difficult and expensive to get due to import bans. The only pieces of it available are what is still from before the ban. The new heads will most likely be resin infused Maple, but I’m still testing them out.
This hammer is primarily used to adjust the blades in my wood hand planes, but also works very well as a small mallet. The smaller side of the head is sized for tapping the plane blade, while the larger is for tapping the body of the plane or the wedge. (The blade is tapped to adjust it left, right, or forward. The body is tapped to pull the blade back.)
The head is made of Lignum Vitae, which is one of the hardest and most dense woods available. The handle is Ash. The combination of the heavy, dense Lignum Vitae head and resilient Ash handle gives it wonderful balance and strength. It is approximately 12″ long and weighs approximately 9 ounces. (The weight varies due to the nature of wood.)
When ordering, please specify if you want the handle shaped slightly thinner than shown. The handle in the pictures is 1 1/8″ square, which is perfect for me, as I have somewhat bigger hands. This size is probably great for most people, but if you feel you would like it smaller please select the Thin option during check out.

I am passionate about creating beautiful furniture and hand tools out of wood. I find the grain and texture of wood to be warm, inviting, and inspirational. Because of this, I strive to design pieces that appeal to the touch as well as the eye.
